Researcher, CNRS; Director of the CEAlex Thomas Faucher's primary field of research is focused on economic and monetary history, in particular on the production and circulation of money in Ancient Egypt, as well as the methods used to extract the minerals required. After completing a thesis in archaeology at the University of Paris-Sorbonne in 2006, Faucher went on to do a post-doctorate as part of the Nomisma programme funded by the French National Research Agency. In 2011, he joined the French Institut Français d’Archéologie Orientale in Cairo as a scientific fellow. For two years, Faucher supervised the "Egyptian Gold" prokect and co-directed excavations at the Samut site in Egypt's Eastern Desert. He was recruited as a research fellow at the Institut de recherche sur les archéomatériaux d'Orléans in 2013, before joining the Bordeaux branch of the same laboratory in 2019 (IRAMAT-CRP2A), where he continued his work on Ancient Egyptian numismatics. Since 2018, he has headed the French archaeological mission in the Eastern Desert (MAFDO). Faucher joined the CEAlex in September 2021 and was nominated director in January 2023.
