Launched in Cairo in 1904, Il Convito half in Arabic, this bilingual periodical, with occasional pages in Turkish, aimed to bring together the civilisations of “East” and “West”. Its aspiration was to give Italians a better understanding of Islam – and Sufism in particular – while offering a new reading of Mediterranean politics from the point of view of the Arab peoples. A militant, visionary, pacifist, anti-imperialist and spiritual ran for forty issues and was widely distributed, before Italy’s invasion of النادي/ journal, Il Convito Libya and then the First World War brought its plans to an end. Our study seeks to take a global look at this forgotten periodical, shedding light on its ambitions and networks, but also on the role of its founders, the Italian Enrico Insabato and the Swede Ivan Aguéli: two Europeans committed to major “Italian-Islamic” alliance, in years that were decisive for the political history of the Near East.
Lancé au Caire en 1904, Il Convito fut un journal hors du commun. Rédigé pour moitié en italien, pour moitié en arabe, ce périodique bilingue, enrichi ponctuellement de pages en turc, entendait oeuvrer au rapprochement des civilisations d’« Orient » et d’« Occident ». Son programme : offrir aux Italiens une meilleure connaissance de l’Islam – notamment du soufisme –, tout en proposant une nouvelle lecture de l’actualité politique méditerranéenne, adoptant le point de vue des peuples arabes. connut Journal militant, visionnaire, pacifiste, anti-impérialiste, nourri de spiritualité, Il Convito une quarantaine de numéros et fut largement distribué, avant que l’invasion de la Libye par l’Italie, puis la Première Guerre mondiale, ne réduisent ses projets à néant. Notre étude voudrait poser un regard global sur ce périodique oublié, en éclairant ses ambitions et ses réseaux, mais également le rôle de ses fondateurs, l’Italien Enrico Insabato et le Suédois Ivan Aguéli : deux Européens engagés dans un grand projet d’alliance « italo-islamique », en des années décisives pour l’histoire politique du Proche-Orient.
أُسست جريدة النادي بالقاهرة عام 1904 وكانت جريدة خارجة عن المألوف. حُررت نصف صفحاتها باللغة العربية والنصف الآخر باللغة الإيطالية وأُثريت من حين لآخر بصفحات باللغة التركية، حيث عملت هذه الجريدة ثنائية اللغة على التقارب بين حضارات «الشرق» و«الغرب». اضطلعت سياستها التحريرية بتقديم للإيطاليين معرفة أفضل بالإسلام، لاسيما الصوفية، بجانب تقديم قراءة مختلفة للوقائع السياسية في منطقة البحر المتوسط عبر تبني وجهة نظر الشعوب العربية. وصِفت كجريدة مناضلة، سلمية، صاحبة رؤية، مناهضة للإمبريالية وغنية بالروحانيات. صدر من Il Convito/ النادي نحو أربعين عددًا وكانت عالية التوزيع قبل أن يؤدي احتلال إيطاليا لليبيا وبعدها الحرب العالمية الأولى إلى القضاء على مشاريعها. ترغب دراستنا في إلقاء نظرة شاملة على هذه الدورية المنسية، مع إضفاء الضوء على طموحاتها وعلى شبكات معلوماتها وكذلك على دور مؤسساها، الإيطالي إنريكو إنساباتو والسويدي إيفان آجيلي، هذان الأوروبيان اللذان انخرطا في مشروع كبير للتحالف بين إيطاليا والإسلام خلال سنوات فارقة في التاريخ السياسي للشرق الأدنى.
