An important focus of the Centre d'Études Alexandrines is the study and conservation of mosaics. This film presents the restoration of the medallions of two very beautiful ancient mosaics, one bearing a dog and the other a Gorgon's head. This project was the result of a partnership between the CEAlex, the Musée de l'Arles et de la Provence Antiques (MAPA) and the Egyptian Supreme Council for Antiquities (SCA). The restoration work itself was conducted under the direction of Patrick Blanc and Marie-Laure Courboules in preparation for an exhibition entitled The Glory of Alexandria (Paris 1998, Cap d'Agde 1998), with funding from the Banque Nationale de Paris.
