A Game of Water

A Game of Water

Similar in concept to Snakes and Ladders, this game involves a 2m x 2.5m board and pieces shaped like water drops. It is available in French and Arabic. Unlike most Egyptian cities, Alexandria is not located on the banks of the Nile, which greatly limits its freshwater resources. As a result, specific infrastructure has always been required to ensure the city's water supply. The game is set in the Mamluk period and it follows the journey of a drop of water from the source of the Nile to Malek and Sorraya's pottery jug (hola). During this long journey through Egypt the players will have the chance to discover Hapi, the ancient god of the annual flood, the Mahmoudiah canal, the movement of water from container to container, the settling of silt, storage in cisterns and water drawing systems (the shadoof and the saqiah).
