Archaeological Objects Inventory Department

Since 1997, the CEAlex has invested heavily in the restoration of a mid-19th century munitions factory (Tabiyet Nahassin) located in Shallalat Gardens, which was made available to the Centre by the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities. This two-storey building houses all the objects unearthed during CEAlex excavations, as well as study and restoration rooms.

The Archaeological Inventory Department team consists of eight members who are responsible for managing and documenting the archaeological artefacts that have been unearthed over the course of almost 30 years of excavations, all of which are stored on these premises.

All objects from excavations or surveys, whether whole or fragmentary, are first cleaned and then marked according to site and stratigraphic unit and recorded in digital databases. The department is also responsible for welcoming visiting researchers, preparing the objects for study and providing them with all the necessary information.
