The CEAlex Educational Outreach Department was set up in 2002 with financial and technical support from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region and the France Volontaires association, as part of its engagement in the Mediterranean zone.

It is actively involved in raising awareness of heritage issues among young people in Alexandria by organising and coordinating cultural, scientific and heritage events. It also offers tours of Alexandria’s sites and monuments, as well as school and extra-curricular activities based on tools such as educational kits for which it provides training. These provide a fun and educational introduction to archaeology and scientific research into the history of Alexandria and Mediterranean civilisations.

Every year since 2010, the Educational Outreach Department has coordinated the Alexandria Heritage Days, a series of exhibitions, tours, lectures and shows designed to give Alexandrians the opportunity to discover or rediscover the history of their city and to take ownership of its rich heritage.
